The Relay Client is open source.
Relay's Apple app is free software. The whole client — the library, the saves, the iCloud continuity, the emulation plumbing — is published under the GNU GPL, version 3 or later, before the first release. You can read it, build it and change it.
This website's source is separate, private, and proprietary. Its repository is not part of the open-source Relay Client.
Open source.
Every line the app runs is public. The licence of every component it ships is one tap away, in the app and here.
No ads. No tracking.
No ad SDK, no analytics, no fingerprinting, no account. Apple's own crash reports only if you opted in with Apple.
Your library stays yours.
Games, saves and settings live on your devices and in your own iCloud. Relay has no server that sees them.
The code
The source lives at github.com/relayemu/client. Build it with Xcode; the instructions are in the repository. There is no private piece to obtain.
The emulators inside
Relay does not write emulators; it stands on excellent ones and says so. Each core ships at an exact, pinned revision under its own licence:
- melonDS 1.1 — GPL-3.0-or-later — nds
- Mesen 2 2.1.1 — GPL-3.0 — nes, snes, sms, gg, pce, ws, wsc
- mGBA 0.10.3+provenance — MPL-2.0 — gb, gbc, gba
The name and the mark
The client is free software; its identity is protected. The Relay name, the Baton mark and the icon belong to the project so that "Relay" always means Relay. Client forks are welcome under their own name. Trademark policy
Your iCloud
Library, save, progress and opt-in game-file continuity use your private iCloud and stay Free. Relay has no server that sees your library.
